Candidate must be located in DMV area and able to commute to Stafford, VA office.

Our team provides focused agile software development and maintenance for CODIS, a mission-critical application for the FBI. Today, CODIS is a client server application developed using Microsoft .NET that supports a database repository of DNA profiles from individuals, unsolved crime scene evidence, and missing persons. CODIS software allows local, state, and national laboratories to compare DNA profiles electronically, thereby linking serial crimes to each other and identifying suspects by matching DNA profiles from crime scenes to individuals profiles. Additionally, the CODIS software is used to assist with the identification of unidentified human remains, missing persons and disaster victims.

The Junior Software Developer will support the design, development, testing, and maintenance of software applications. This role requires a solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work under supervision while contributing to the enhancement of existing systems and development of new features. The developer will collaborate with technical staff to resolve software issues, respond to customer feedback, and contribute to the continuous improvement of applications.

Responsibilities

  • Develops codes, test, and debug software components and applications.
  • Assist in enhancing existing applications to meet performance, usability, and security requirements.
  • Collaborate with senior developers and technical staff to troubleshoot and resolve software issues.
  • Respond to user suggestions and customer feedback for product improvements.
  • Support integration with standard software packages, automated deployment technologies, and patching tools.
  • Assist in the development of user documentation, training materials, and desktop design testing.
  • Participate in automation of application and configuration deployments.
  • Ensure adherence to best practices for coding, testing, and security.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Security Clearance: Active Secret Clearance required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of professional software development experience (certifications or past project work may substitute for experience).
  • Familiarity with SDLC processes, including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, and maintenance.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to learn new technologies quickly.
  • Ability to apply fundamental concepts and practices in software engineering.
  • Work effectively under supervision in a collaborative team environment.
  • The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience or foundational knowledge of:
  • Languages & Frameworks: .NET, C#, JavaScript, Java (Spring Boot), Blazor
  • Cloud & DevOps Tools: Azure DevOps 2022, Visual Studio 2022, Git for Windows, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes
  • API & Integration Tools: Swagger, RabbitMQ, Keycloak, Linkerd, NGINX
  • Data & Search Tools: Elasticsearch or OpenSearch, XML/XSD, JSON
  • Cloud Platforms: Experience developing and maintaining components in AWS
  • Operating Systems: Linux
  • Strong interest in software engineering and eagerness to learn new technologies.
  • Good communication skills to interact with team members and stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, secure, and efficient code.
