Job Title: Product Designer

Location: Mason, OH

Schedule: 1st shift, typically 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. (flexible to 9–5). Hybrid option: ~2 days/week from home after ramp-up.

Employment Type: Direct Hire

Compensation: $60,000–$70,000 (depending on experience)

Position Summary

The Product Designer turns customer/retailer specifications into production-ready designs—primarily pillows—and partners closely with Sales and Manufacturing to ensure products are buildable, cost-effective, and on-brand. Work is about 80% office / 20% manufacturing floor with <5% travel to vendors, plants, or retail partners.

What You’ll Do

  • Translate sales/customer specs (e.g., for Costco, Macy’s, and other retailers) into clear, manufacturable pillow designs and documentation.
  • Develop product specifications: construction details, fills, fabrics, dimensions, tolerances, labels/packaging callouts, and BOMs.
  • Create and refine drawings, diagrams, and production art in Adobe Illustrator ; leverage light CAD as needed.
  • Collaborate with plant teams to validate feasibility, optimize cost, and support first-article builds and sampling.
  • Enter/maintain product data in the ERP system; ensure item masters, BOMs, routings, and revisions are accurate.
  • Partner with Quality and Ops to troubleshoot issues, implement changes, and maintain revision control.
  • Support retail and private-label programs with line sheets, spec packs, and change requests.
  • Monitor timelines and communicate risks; keep stakeholders aligned through launch.

What You’ll Bring (Top Skills)

  • Hands-on pillow design/spec creation experience (or closely related soft-goods/textiles product design).
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator ; familiarity with CAD (enough to interpret/adjust basic drawings).
  • Comfort working in/around manufacturing and collaborating directly with plant teams.
  • ERP exposure (creating/maintaining items, BOMs, routings) and strong attention to detail.
  • Nice-to-have: experience serving Costco/Macy’s or other big-box retail programs; knowledge of textiles/fabrics, trims, and labeling; understanding of cost drivers and DFM principles.
  • Background from bedding, textiles, furniture, upholstery, automotive interiors, or similar spec-driven manufacturing is highly relevant.

Qualifications

  • Education: No strict requirement; portfolio or work samples demonstrating spec creation and Illustrator skills are highly valued.
  • Strong technical documentation skills (spec sheets, BOMs, revision control).
  • Comfortable splitting time between desk work and the production floor.

Benefits & Perks

  • Generous PTO: Prorated in year one; 20 days starting each January , increases after 3 years; unused PTO paid out at year-end.
  • Holidays: 8 paid company holidays.
  • Health: Medical, dental, vision.
  • Retirement: 401(k).
  • Wellness: Program to earn money Jan–Dec.
  • Flexible work hours; relaxed, family-owned culture (yes, you can wear shorts in the office).

Additional Info

  • Work Environment: ~80% office / ~20% on the manufacturing floor; <5% travel.
  • Background/Drug Screen: Required.
  • Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. (no sponsorship available).

Bonus points if you’ve worked with bedding/textile competitors or similar manufacturers (e.g., spec-driven soft goods) and can hit the ground running on pillow construction and documentation.
