Potential Enhancement Foundation in collaboration with Powering Potential in Karatu District, Arusha Region, a quiet digital revolution is happening.
In collaboration with Powering Potential, Potential Enhancement Foundation is implementing the Karatu District Program (KDP) — a 3-year initiative to install solar power and computer labs in 23 public schools across Karatu.
The goal is simple: Give students and teachers access to technology, internet, and 21st-century skills.
The 3 Phases of KDP
The program is being rolled out in 3 phases:
KDP 1: Completed – 7 Schools
We are proud to announce that Phase 1 is complete. The following schools have now been supplied with 20 computers and a solar power system each:
Mlimani, Sumawe, Domel, Endabash, Upper Kitete, Chaenda, Oldeani, and G/Arusha.
Each lab is also connected to the internet, opening doors to online learning resources, e-books, and digital research for both students and teachers.
KDP 2: Completed – 8 Schools
Phase 2 was successfully implemented at:
Diego, Kilimamoja, Kilimatembo, Marang, Orboshan, Qaru, Kainam, Rhotia, and Qandged Schools.
Thousands of students in these communities now have their first experience with computers.
KDP 3: Ongoing
We are currently implementing Phase 3. Schools like Mang’ola and Awet have already received their installations. More schools in Karatu will be connected before the end of 2026.
More Than Just Computers: Training for Impact Installation is only half the work.
After every setup, our team conducts intensive post-installation, hands-on training for both teachers and students. The training covers basic computer skills, internet safety, typing, and how to use online learning platforms.
This ensures the labs are used to their fullest potential from day one.
As the Mr Sironga, Headmaster of Awet School shared with us:
“Ulimwengu wa sasa unahitaji ujuzi wa TEHAMA ili kuweza kuukabili maana kila kazi inahitaji uwe na ujuzi wa kompyuta. Sisi walimu sasa hivi kazi zetu nyingi zinafanyika kwenye mfumo hivyo ujuzi wa kompyuta wanaoupata shuleni utawawezesha kuwa na ufanisi vizuri kazini.”
Translated into
“The world today requires ICT skills to face it because every job requires you to have computer skills. As teachers, much of our work is now done on systems. The computer skills students get in school will enable them to be effective at work.”
